Heavy rains of up to 50 liters per square meters expected throughout Romania have prompted hydrologists to issue a flood advisory for 21 counties from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon.

Hydrologists warn against newly formed torrents, streams and non-cadastered rivers that may cause local floods, as well as swollen rivers.

“It is mandatory to monitor the evolution of the hydro-meteorological situation, in accordance with the Regulation on managing emergencies caused by floods, dangerous meteorological phenomena, accidents at hydro-technical constructions and accidental pollution,” hydrologists said.

The National Weather Administration initially issued a flood advisory for eight counties in northern, central and western Romania, warning against increased flows on rivers Crasna, Barcau, Crisuri, Bega, Timis, Caras and Nera.
