EP Election Results Won’t Influence Romania’s Ruling Coalition – Soc Dem Leader

Romania’s Social Democratic Party leader Mircea Geoana said Sunday, after he cast his ballot in the European Parliament elections, that he doesn’t think the results of this vote would influence the country’s ruling coalition as the country needs stability.

Asked whether the results of the EP poll could affect the country’s ruling coalition formed of democrat liberals and social democrats, Geoana said: “I don’t think so. These are just speculations, which is natural during an election campaign. Romania will continue to need political stability.”

The social democrat leader added he hopes voter turnout in Romania will be honorable, adding that people no longer go to the polls because they are disappointed.

"I understand Romanians’ disappointment toward the European promise and toward the promises the Romanian political class has been making and failing to keep for the past twenty years,” Geoana said.
