Romanian President’s Daughter Gets MEP Seat, Returns To Party

Romanian President Traian Basescu’s youngest daughter, Elena Basescu, who earned a seat as independent candidate in the European Parliament, will return to the Democratic Liberal Party.

Elena Basescu received Sunday evening the documents she needs to sign to rejoin the party, which she left to run as independent in the EP elections.
 
Party leader and prime minister Emil Boc welcomed her back saying “Welcome home, from where you never left."
 
After exit polls indicated she secured enough votes to become a European lawmaker, Elena Basescu said she is very proud of the result she got and she will be happy to return to the party with this experience.
 
Elena Basescu added her father didn’t give her much advice during the campaign and only told her to be herself.
 
President Traian Basescu said he is proud his daughter gained a seat in the EU Parliament, adding he always prepared her for less, telling her this election is just an exercise.
