Final EP Results In Romania Likely To Be Validated Thursday

Final results of European Parliament elections in Romania will most likely be validated and sent for publication in the country’s Official Journal Thursday, said Monday Marian Muhulet, spokesman for the Central Electoral Bureau.

"Most likely, on Thursday, we’ll be able to validate and send the final results for publication in the Official Journal,” Muhulet said.

Romania voted Sunday to send 33 representatives in the European Parliament for the next five years.

Preliminary results from the Central Electoral Bureau, at GMT 0800 on Monday, indicate the alliance formed of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Conservative Party (PC) secured 30.82% of the votes, the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) obtained 29.75% and the National Liberal Party (PNL) got 14.53%.

Furthermore, the Hungarian minority party (UDMR) obtained 9.07%, followed by far-right Greater Romania Party (PRM) with 8.68% and independent candidate Elena Basescu with 4.22%.
