Romanian Businessman Gigi Becali Asks Court To Lift Prohibition To Leave Country

Last week, Becali requested a suspension of the measures imposed by the judicial control, after withdrawing a similar request late last month.

According to the partial results of Sunday’s European Parliament elections, Becali has earned a MEP seat, having been put forward as a candidate by the Greater Romania Party while in preventive custody.

George Becali spent two weeks in jail alongside four of his bodyguards for the kidnapping of three people who allegedly stole his car. The court released Becali on probation on April 17.
