"These measures were not approached and we do not want to infer anything that could…Today (e.n. Tuesday), I talked to the fiscal advisors, but not on these issues but on farmers’ problems," Pogea said, answering a question from the media.

Romania’s flat tax of 16% and the value added tax of 19% will be most probably hiked after January 1, 2010 as the recent fiscal measures do not ensure the needed resources to the budget, fiscal consultancy company Riff Holding president Marius Stancescu said Tuesday.

The flat tax might be increased to 18%, while the VAT could be 2.5-3 percentage points higher, at levels used in other countries, Stancescu said.
