Romania’s Justice Ministry has depleted the funds to pay the 50% neuropsychological exhaustion bonus to magistrates, Minister Catalin Predoiu said Wednesday.

The Justice Ministry has depleted the funds to pay the bonus to magistrates, Predoiu said earlier Wednesday.

He said the funds have been distributed for the 2010-2012 period.

“By law, these payments are not possible, even if we had the funds,” Predoiu said.

He said paying the overdue bonuses would drain the ministry of some EUR300 million, namely 60% of its budget.

The magistrates and auxiliary staff with several courthouses in capital Bucharest and other cities across the country have temporarily suspended activity over the past two days, demanding the Justice Ministry paid their due bonuses for mental distress.
