The ruling may be appealed at the Supreme Court.

Magistrates of the Supreme Court were informed in an address from the Finance Ministry, that their salaries for June do not include a 50% wage bonus. Magistrates refused to pick up their pay and challenged the address in court.

Court sessions across Romania will be suspended daily for three hours as of Thursday, most likely as of 9 a.m., the vice-president of the Romanian National Union of Judges, Dragos Calin, said Wednesday. Representatives of auxiliary staff in courts announced Wednesday they would join magistrates in their protests and cease activity for two additional hours every day, also starting Thursday.

Court sessions were halted temporarily over the past two days, in protest to an order of the Ministry of Justice, which cancelled a 50% wage bonus for magistrates.

The Bucharest Court of Appeals ruled in favor of magistrates and suspended the order, but justice minister Catalin Predoiu said Wednesday he would file an appeal with the Supreme Court.
