The police officer received a 29-day warrant, said Sorin Leau, spokesman for the local Prosecutors’ Office.

The 28 year-old young man was in a car Sunday in the center of Oancea commune, and the police officer scolded him for listening to music too loud. The two argued and the police officer shot the man.

"Witnesses said the victim, who didn’t have a driving license, had stopped the car in the center of the commune and was listening to music at maximum volume. The police officer intervened because the man was disturbing the peace, warned him not to drive the car without a license, the two argued and the officer shot him several times,” the local police spokesperson said Sunday.

The victim was taken to the emergency hospital in Galati with multiple shot wounds in the chest, abdomen and legs. One of the bullets fired had hit the victim in the head. On Sunday evening, the victim was taken by helicopter to the Floreasca emergency hospital in Bucharest, where he was operated and placed in intensive care, but died Monday morning.

Oancea mayor Victor Chiriloaie said Sunday evening the police officer was not dressed in his uniform at the time of the incident, but the police hasn’t said whether he was off duty at the tome.

County police officials said investigations are ongoing.
