"Prime Minister Emil Boc asked for more careful spending of public money, and this is the responsibility of each minister in his sector of activity. Many agencies are useless and inefficient. The Economy Ministry only has three agencies (…) but we want to reorganize 14 research institutes into two structures, for the industry and energy sectors," Videanu told a news conference.
Sources within the ministry told MEDIAFAX last week that the proposals to reduce the number of government agencies include the merging of research institutes coordinated by the Economy Ministry into two structures operating in energy and industry sectors.
Boc talked to ministers at the end of last week, to find ways to cut down on the number of government agencies.
Romanian President Traian Basescu said last week on public radio that the country needs to immediately dismiss about 20% “useless” public servants.
