Aurel Cazacu Quits Top Position In Romania’s Economy Min

Aurel Cazacu, head of Romania’s General Department for Defense Industry and Special Problems, accepted to submit his resignation at the request of economy minister Adriean Videanu, following the events he was involved in, according to an official statement of the ministry.

Cazacu’s daughter was associate in the company Defense, Security and Intelligence Co – Desintco SRL, together with Mircea Basescu, the head of state’s brother, and Sandu Ion Eftimie, a former general within the National Defense Ministry, who was in charge of the Armaments Department until the beginning of 2009, when he retired.

Videanu said Friday he asked the Control Body of the ministry to check the information on Aurel Cazacu, after the press reported his daughter’s association in the company together with Mircea Basescu and business people.

President Traian Basescu on Friday asked his brother to withdraw from the company. Cazacu also announced he will take his daughter out of the company Defense, Security and Intelligence CO – Desintco SRL.
 
Romanian businessman Romeo Oita, associate with the Romanian president’s brother in the company, said Friday Mircea Basescu and Maria Cazacu signed the documents to leave the company.
