Romanian Construction Mkt Won’t Revive Sooner Than Mid-2010

The Romanian constructions market, which currently faces a severe decline, will not revive sooner than in May-June 2010, according to Claudiu Georgescu, head of the Association of Construction Material Producers in Romania, or APMCR.

The main issues of the constructions sector are the lack of Romanian capital for investments and the poorly qualified workforce, Georgescu said after the Romania Construct Forum 2009 conference, organized by MEDIAFAX.

Georgescu also criticized the fact that certain developers are still keeping high prices.

APMCR representative added that construction materials segment should weigh around 50% in the total constructions market, but it accounted for 35%-40% in 2008 and 2009.

Georgescu sees the construction materials market down 30% this year, and but expects a stagnation in 2010, based on the economic growth forecasts of the National Prognosis Commission and the International Monetary Fund.
