The Bucharest Court has admitted the watchdog’s appeal and forwarded the case to the Court of Sector 5 for a retrial.
The Court of Sector 5 admitted on February 17 IGPR’s request to annul the 35,000 lei (EUR1=RON4.2923) fine received from the watchdog. The Court said the case lacked important elements, such as mention of the contravention, a description of the facts and a damage assessment.
The public procurement watchdog appealed the decision before the Court of Bucharest.
The dispute arose in October 2008, after President Traian Basescu said the Interior Ministry signed contracts for 392 Dacia Logan cars at the price of EUR11,700 per car, and for each one EUR40,000 worth of equipment was contracted, more than triple the value of the car, while the equipment contracted for BMW cars, used by the Road Police, cost EUR60,000 for each car.
