The contract worth 456,612 lei (EUR1=RON4.2897), VAT not included, will run for 120 days and it will be financed from the state budget.

The lowest bidder will be declared winner and it will be in charge with design works, upgrade details and the technical project, the road authority said.

The Giurgiu-Ruse bridge over the Danube, which stretches onto 2,223 meters, was put in use back in 1954.

Repair works on the bridge were last executed during 1996-1997 and consisted in replacing the entire bridge track (hydro-insulation, leveling concrete, asphalt, curb stones, filling concrete and asphalt on sidewalks), mounting directional parapets and replacing the devices used to cover dilatation joints on the viaduct.

To pass the bridge, drivers must pay a toll of EUR6 for cars and EUR37 for vehicles exceeding 12 tons and minimum four axes. The funds are collected by the Romanian Transport Ministry, via the public roads authority.
