Romania To Have 100,000 More Jobless People In Next Two Mos

The number of unemployed people will rise by about 100,000 in the next two months and their total number will exceed 725,000, the leader of the Romanian industry union - UGIR 1903, Cezar Corici, told a news conference Thursday.

The unemployment rate rose by 0.3% in September to 6.9% and the total number of unemployed people reached 625,140, up 24,000 compared to August, according to data offered by the National Employment Agency.

The unemployment rate was at 3.9% in September last year.

The International Monetary Fund estimates this year’s unemployment rate will reach 9.6% compared to 8.9% at the beginning of negotiations for a standby loan agreement early 2009.

The unemployment rate might rise to 10% in 2010, and will drop to 8.3% in 2011, according to the IMF’s estimations after the first evaluation of the agreement.
