Winter Holidays Tourist Packages Cost 15% Less In Romania This Year, 25% Less Abroad

Tourist packages for the winter season including New Year’s cost an average 15% less this year than in 2008 for destinations in Romania and 20-25% less for destinations abroad, according to Romania’s tour operators’ association ANAT.

However, ANAT said Thursday it expects a 10% decrease in the number of tourists compared to last year.

The best selling tourist destinations for the winter season are resorts in Romania, Austria and Bulgaria.

In Romanian mountain resorts Valea Prahovei, Poiana Brasov and Predeal, a three to four nights package over Christmas in three or four-star accommodation units with a ll meals included costs 550 to 900 lei (EUR1=RON4.2967), while a similar package costs RON1,000 to RON2,500 for New Year’s.

For three nights over Christmas or New Year’s at hotels in Romanian seaside resorts, tourists will pay an average EUR150.

In Austria, five nights over New Year’s cost EUR190 to EUR250 in boarding houses, about EUR500 in three-star hotels and EUR800 to EUR1,000 in four-star hotels.

Exotic tourist destinations and cruises have seen the biggest increases, of 25% for New Year’s and a two-week vacation package at a four-star hotel in the Dominican Republic or Cuba costs EUR2.500 to EUR4,000.
