Exports were down 18.1% on the year to EUR23.9 billion in January-October, while imports fell 35.7% to EUR31.76 billion year-on-year.
In October alone, Romania’s trade deficit was of EUR904 million, compared with EUR2.19 billion in the same month a year earlier.
Exports were at EUR2.7 billion in October, up by 4.3% compared with September, but down by 17.05% from the same month the year earlier.
Imports fell 1.7% on the month to EUR3.61 billion in October and were down 33.76% on the year.
Exports are calculated exclusive of costs, insurance and freight fees, but imports are calculated including such costs.
Romania’s trade deficit was up 3.4% in 2008 to EUR22.5 billion, from EUR21.7 billion in 2007, with the exports growing last year at a higher pace than imports.
