The Ministry of Defense told MEDIAFAX that for the complete payment of salary rights in 2009, the ministry’s budget was increased by RON84.6 million, through a Government decision issued on November 25.

Some of this money, namely RON4.6 million, will go to transfers between public administration units for the payment of salary rights in culture, arts and health institutions.

Also, RON500,000 will be used to subsidize Romanian aviation company Romavia.

The rest of the money, namely RON79.5 million, will go to staff expenses.

People close to the matter told MEDIAFAX Thursday that this is a bid to pay the troops’ overdue bonuses, for May and June, but a series of approvals is still required.

Since August 15, Ministry of Defense staff receives full pay, including confidentiality and radiation bonuses, but the bonuses for May and June are still unpaid.
