Intra-group loans amounted to EUR1.83 billion of the total FDI in 2009, while equity stakes (including reinvested profit) stood at EUR3.06 billion.

The FDI covered roughly 97% of the current account deficit last year, compared with a 53.5% coverage provided in 2008.

Romania’s current account deficit narrowed 68.7% to EUR5.05 billion in 2009, from a EUR16 billion gap a year earlier, due mainly to the falling trade deficit.
