Romania Pledges To Approve Unitary Wage Law Norms By September 2010

Romania’s Government pledged to approve the norms to implement the unitary wage law by the end of September, cut staff expenses, other than wage costs, by 30%, as well as reduce bonuses for civil staff, according to the country’s additional letter of intent to the standby agreement with the IMF.

The wage laws to be implemented by September will cut staff expenses by 30%, other than wage expenses, and will limit individual bonuses for civil staff.

The Government said it will simplify the social assistance system and grant households, that face difficulties due to the financial crisis, a temporary financial aid.

The Executive said it will talk with the World Bank, the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund before implementing the program, adding it will also present the three institutions with a pack of reforms targeting the healthcare system.
