Anastase met Tuesday morning with the representatives of several civil organizations for talks on the country’s draft lustration law.
21 December 1989 Association leader Teodor Maries said he is no longer in hunger strike due to talks setting a clear date to adopt the lustration law.
Anastase said talks held Tuesday were mere technical discussions to be followed on April 13 by debates on the draft lustration law and the amendments to be taken into account.
The Chamber speaker said she is confident the Parliament will pass the lustration law by May 20, adding the „toned down” version of the draft law adopted by the Senate will be amended.
Maries has been on hunger strike for 78 days, evincing dissatisfaction over the country’s failure to adopt a lustration law 21 years from revolution that overthrew the communist regime.
