Article 6 of the Romanian Constitution was amended with a new section 3, said Romanian Prime-Minister Emil Boc. „It clearly states that public authorities will consult with civic organizations of ethnic minorities in decisions regarding the preservation, development and expression of their ethnic, cultural and religious identity”, Boc added.

Article 6 of the Romanian Constitution, as referred to by the Prime-Minister, concerns the right to identity. Through it, the state recognizes and guarantees the right of national minority ethnics to the preservation, development and expression of their ethnic, cultural, linguistic and religious identity.

These protective measures taken by the Romanian State have to conform to the principles of equality and non-discrimination in relation to all other Romanian citizens.

The Romanian Government began Constitution revision procedures on Wednesday.
