Romanian Police Officer Arrested For Drug Trafficking

Bogdan Butnariu, 33, was arrested Tuesday along with other suspects on charges of drug trafficking.

The Bucharest Police started investigations regarding Butnariu this month, as the police officer repeatedly failed to accomplish his duty.

In 2007, the police officer was convicted for theft and the sentence was suspended.

People close to the matter told MEDIAFAX that 12 other suspects were detained along with Butnariu and nine other people will further be investigated.

Organized crime prosecutors said Butnariu is part of a group of heroin and methadone traffickers who operated in Bucharest in February and March.
