The heir apparent to the British throne will arrive in Romania later this week and will visit the Romanian region of Transylvania, where his foundation is currently engaged in projects regarding the preservation of local customs and marketing of ecological products.

Last year, Prince Charles opened a regional center for processing eco products in the village of Saschiz, Mures County, central Romania.

In May 2009, The Prince Charles Foundation and the Romanian Government launched the „Carpati” project, meant to promote organic farming, rural tourism and cultural preservation in six Romanian counties. Sources close to the matter told MEDIAFAX at the time that a Secretariat for Durable Development was set up for the project, comprising specialists from the Ministries of Agriculture, Regional Development, Economy, Environment, Internal Affairs, Culture, Tourism and Foreign Affairs. The Secretariat would use the field experience provided by Prince Charles’ foundation to find financing solutions for several initiatives, which could improve living standards in rural areas.

The British Prince previously visited Romania in late May 2009.

In recent years, Prince Charles has become involved in projects which aim to restore several Saxon villages.
