The main objectives of the European Council reunion are adopting the European Union 2020 Strategy for jobs and growth, establishing the Union’s position for the G-20 summit to take place in Toronto between June 26 and June 27, as well as analyzing the impact of moving beyond 20% greenhouse gas emission reductions.

Romania believes that the EU 2020 Strategy is essential to boost the European economy and uphold the adoption of EU member states’ structural reforms, said the press release.

According to the Presidency, EU leaders will asses the progress made by each member state regarding national targets and their efforts to tackle the problems that hinder economic growth. Heads of state and government will hold talks on Estonia’s accession to the Euro zone, the negotiations initiated by Iceland to accede to the EU, as well as the EU standpoint for the United Nations summit on the Millennium Development Goals.
