In his letter, Basescu said it is highly important to adopt the new education law, which passed in the Chamber of Deputies and is now pending approval by the Senate, in order to be enforced starting with the 2010-2011 school year. The head of state also said the Senate ought to pass the education law before the parliamentary recess, stressing he is certain Geoana will comply with his request.
Basescu also wrote Monday to the heads of the Senate and Chamber of Deputies, renewing his request for the adoption of the Civil and Criminal Procedural Codes, and the law regulating the activity of the National Integrity Agency ANI, before the parliamentary recess.
Democrat liberal senator Mihail Hardau, head of the Senate’s education committee, recently said he asked the Senate’s headship to extend by one week the deadline for the finalization of the report on the education law, although the report was due for submission to the Senate until June 18.
