Romanian Leu Opens Slightly Stronger Vs Euro

The Romanian leu opened slightly higher against the euro on Thursday, continuing the previous day’s appreciation trend, on foreign currency sales.

The leu opened at 4.363/4.366 to the euro, slightly higher from 4.3665/4.3695 at Wednesday’s closing.

Shortly afterwards, the leu touched an early high at 4.345/4.348 versus euro, and traded at 4.3465/4.3485 units at around GMT0710.

Currencies in the region slightly depreciated against euro in early trade Thursday, with the Hungarian forint losing 0.6% and the Polish zloty opening almost similar with Wednesday.

The central bank set Wednesday the leu’s indicative at 4.3688 units, a fresh all-time low against the euro. Against the US dollar, the leu’s reference won 0.2% on the day at 3.5617 units.

On the monetary market Thursday morning, overnight rates were flat at 5.8%-6.4% a year.
