Automobile Dacia commercial manager Fabrice Cambolive said building Euro 5 engines entails a higher cost than the ones which conform to the Euro 4 emission standard. Because of this, he added, the cost of the new engine may reflect on the car’s final price. Cambolive stressed, however, that Dacia would seek ways to adjust the cost, so that the final price can be unaffected. He also said that Dacia will soon give in to „pressure” from foreign customers and begin producing models with automatic transmission.
Dacia’s factory in Mioveni will open a new production line for the new family of Euro 5 engines, including H4 and H5, developed by Renault in collaboration with Nissan. These will be used in Renault, Nissan, Dacia and Renault Samsung models, Automobile Dacia vice-president Constantin Stroe told MEDIAFAX on Wednesday.
The factory will also adapt the K7 engine to conform to the Euro 5 standard, Dacia officials said.
Dacia currently produces three types of engine, which meet Euro 4: K7J, K7M and the diesel F8Q. Euro 5 engines are available on the 4×4 version of the Duster, one version of the Sandero and one of the Logan, but they are imported from other Renault factories.
Last year, the Dacia factory produced 273,559 engines: 1.4 L and 1.6 L (gasoline) and 1.9 L (diesel). Automobile Dacia sold 311,282 vehicles last year, 20% more than in 2008.
