The Government says reducing the number of state secretaries and undersecretaries of state could save up as much as EUR2 million per year, EUR800,000 by the end of the year, plus EUR2.5 million more per year, of which EUR1 million by the end of the year, by reducing the number of deputy prefects.

According to Prime Minister Emil Boc, the state budget spends up to EUR110,000 every year on a single state secretary, an amount which includes his/her salary, the salary of the secretary’s cabinet staff, costs related to fuel, trips and other services. The state spends EUR77,000 and EUR33,000 per year on each undersecretary of state and deputy prefect, respectively.
