Dumitru said that, by restructuring the ministry, the state budget will save 127 million lei (EUR1=RON4.2685) annually.

According to Dumitru, of the 3,866 positions that will be cut, 691 are vacancies and 3,175 are occupied positions. Following restructuration, the ministry and its institutions will have 9,251 employees.

The ministry reorganization measure aims at reducing public spending, and follows the enactment of an austerity plan which cuts salaries and increases taxes.
