Asus Puts Off Romania Launch Of NX90 Laptop Over Stolen Prototype

Asus Romania has postponed the official launch in Romania of its NX90 laptop, initially scheduled for September, after the prototype was stolen mid-August from a hotel where it had been displayed for promotional purposes, the company said Monday.

The model has not yet entered mass production yet and the stolen model was one of the few available in Europe.

„Before every important launch, we usually present the media in advance with a prototype of the respective product, before it goes to mass production. We now have to wait for a new model, arriving from Taiwan. We have decided to postpone the local launch to avoid potential logistics problems,” Asus Romania spokesman Ciprian Donciu said in a press release.

Before it was stolen, the NX90 notebook had been displayed for promotional purposes in two locations in capital Bucharest.

The notebook was stolen on the night of August 11, the company said in the press release, adding the police had been called and an investigation is underway.

The Asus NX90 is a limited edition laptop designed in collaboration with Daniel Lewis of Bang and Olufsen and is only available on a per-order basis. Its commercial value is set to rise to 10.000 lei (EUR1=RON4.2447).
