Romanian Opposition Parties Team Up For New No-Confidence Motion Against Govt

Romania’s opposition Liberal Party head Crin Antonescu said Wednesday, after a meeting with opposition social democrats, that the two parties will jointly submit a no-confidence motion against the Government, during the Parliament session this fall.

Antonescu said the motion will be put to the vote as soon as possible and stressed the two parties are to decide on a new Cabinet that could take office the day after the government is overthrown, if the motion passes.

He added the two parties will soon start drafting their governing program.

As regards the prime minister proposition for the future „crisis government”, Antonescu said the two parties are to decide on the matter and reiterated liberals’ choice for an independent prime minister.

Social democrat head Victor Ponta said mid-June, after the center-right coalition Government led by Emil Boc survived a no-confidence motion by a narrow margin of just eight votes, that the opposition might submit a second motion in the Parliament session this fall, adding his party will do its utmost to fight against the Government’s austerity plan.
