Referring to a recent statement made by French secretary of state for European Affairs Pierre Lellouche, who said France wants to delay Romania’s and Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area, Igas said he believes France has not yet expressed its standpoint.

The minister added he met with several European officials in Brussels Monday and Tuesday, adding talks were encouraging.

Romanian President Traian Basescu said Thursday that France, the Netherlands and Germany, as well as other states, agreed during the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) with forwarding to the European Parliament the decision regarding Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area.

According to AFP, Lellouche said France will see to it that a decision regarding Romania’s and Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area will not be taken by the summer of 2011.
