Romania-Moldova Border Treaty Unconstitutional – Moldovan Pres

The signing, last week, of the Treaty on state borders between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, by Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi, is unconstitutional, said Moldovan President Mihai Ghimpu, cited by the online edition of Jurnal de Chisinau.

Filat signed this treaty during a visit to Bucharest. Several political analysts and opponents of the prime minister criticized the signing of the treaty, arguing that it breached legislation, since it was signed by a foreign minister and a prime minister.

Filat rejected the criticism and explained that Moldovan Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca could not have signed the treaty, as he is suspended for the duration of the election campaign.
