The winners were announced during a ceremony which took place in New York on Monday.

The film tells the story of Ion Barladeanu, who, after living on the streets of Bucharest for almost 20 years, became a world-renown artist. His collages, depicting life in communist Romania, were displayed in 2009 in London, next to works by Andy Warhol and Marcel Duchamp, and in 2010 at a prestigious gallery in Paris.

„The World According to Ion B.” was produced by HBO Romania and Alexander Nanau Production, in collaboration with Avro-Netherlands, YLE Teema and SVT Sweden. It had its exclusive premiere on December 17, 2009, on HBO Romania.

The other nominees in the International Emmys „Arts Programming” category were: „All My Life: Cazuza” (TV Globo, Brazil), „Imagine… David Hockney: A Bigger Picture” (BBC/ Coluga Pictures, UK) and „Personas Inside Out” (TV Asahi, Japan).
