In October, retail sales were down 3.5% on the month in data adjusted for the number of working days and seasonal factors.

Fuel sales dropped 2.7% in November from a month earlier, while non-food sales were down 1.7%. Sales of food, drinks and tobacco rose 2.8% on the month in November.

In annual terms, adjusted retail sales fell 7.6% in November, due to declines in food and non-food sales, the statistics data showed.

Non-food sales fell 14.6% on the year, while sales of food, drinks and tobacco were down 5.5%. Retail fuel sales rose 6.8% in November from the year-earlier month.

In January to November, Romanian retail sales fell 5.3% on the year, again driven by lower sales in the food and non-food sectors.
