Authorities are looking at nine state-owned research institutes and seven research and development companies, and the ministry seeks investors and EU funds to support the latter.

The ministry wants to privatize ICSITPML, ICEM Iasi and IPROCHIM and reorganize EUROTEST. It also plans to privatize ISCIR and outsource some of the activities of SIMTEX Bucharest, which is undergoing reorganization.

The ministry plans to shut down IPIU and BRML-CERT.

The ministry also kept the proposition former Economy Minister Adriean Videanu made in 2009 to merge 14 institutes in two structures with attributions in the energy and industrial sectors, respectively.
