Romania Faces No Flu Epidemic Threat – Health Minister

Romanian Health Minister Attila Cseke said Wednesday there is no risk of an epidemic of influenza in Romania, although the number of flu cases has increased.

The Health Ministry said earlier the number of acute respiratory infections and flu cases has increased over the past week, exceeding an estimated maximum level.

Over 118,430 acute respiratory infections were registered between February 14 and 20, up 21.5% compared to the previous week.

Laboratory tests confirmed 83 flu cases in the aforementioned interval (40 infections with the AH1N1 virus and 43 type B flu cases).

According to the ministry, the number of flu cases is likely to increase in the upcoming period.
