About Half Of Romanians Satisfied With Their Lives, 4% Say Economic Situation Is Good – Poll

Almost half of Romanians are satisfied with their lives, only 4% consider that the country’s economic situation is good and 14% of them expect the economy will recover in 2011, according to a Eurobarometer survey published on Tuesday.

The survey polled 1001 Romanians between November 11 and December 1, 2010.

The poll shows that 46% of Romanians are satisfied with their lives, compared to 36% at the beginning of last year. About 54% of Romanians in urban areas and 39% of those living in rural areas said they are pleased with their lives.

In the European Union, 78% of respondents said they are pleased with their lives, a level 30% higher than that registered in Romania. In Denmark the level hit 97% and 96% in Sweden and the Netherlands. Only 38% of Bulgarians said they are satisfied with their lives.

According to the Eurobarometer, in the fall of 2010, 94% of Romanians considered the country’s economic situation was bad or very bad, compared to 90% at the beginning of last year. About 70% of EU citizens said their countries’ economic situation is bad.

On the other hand, 85% of Swedish respondents said their country’s economic situation is good, while in Luxemburg the level hits 79% and in Austria and Finland 61%.

At the beginning of last year, 62% of Germans said Germany’s economic situation was bad or very bad, while in the fall of 2010 68% of them considered that their country’s economic situation was good.

Only 14 of Romanians said they think the economy will recover in the next 12 months.
