The mayor of Bucharest will be in Beijing from Wednesday to Friday, at the invitation of his counterpart, Guo Jinlong. The visit is part of the process to implement the twinning agreement signed in 2005 between Bucharest and Beijing. Oprescu will then travel to Shanghai and negotiate a series of collaborations.
Oprescu said he will meet with representatives of the Beijing Construction Engineering Group to discuss a public-private partnership for the construction of a highway and other infrastructure projects.
Bucharest city councilors on Monday voted on the City Hall’s budget for 2011, which amounts to RON4.5 billion, over RON1 billion lower than last year’s RON5.6 billion. They brought around 50 amendments to the draft budget, slashing the funds allotted for investment objectives such as the „Lia Manoliu” Stadium, the city’s urban development Strategy and the rehabilitation of the Dambovita river.
