Romanian Govt To Seek Confidence Vote For Teacher Wage Cap Act, Social Code

Romania's Government on Thursday decided to begin the steps towards seeking a vote of confidence in Parliament for the bill capping wage raises for teachers who won salary rights in court, and for the Social Dialog Code, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX.

The two acts were approved in a special meeting on Thursday and will be sent to the Parliament.

Prime Minister Emil Boc has said the salary rights won by teachers in court will be paid in installments starting with 2012. The value and payment schedule will be determined once all court rulings are tallied.

Finance Ministry state secretary Gheorghe Gherghina said the raises might entail sacking about 100,000 public sector employees in order to keep the public salary fund unchanged without hiking taxes.
