Over 85,500 Romanian Children Have One Or Both Parents Away, Working Abroad

Over 85,500 Romanian children have one or both parents away, working abroad, and 1,001 have ended up in foster care while the rest have been left with relatives and family friends, according to data centralized by the Labor and Family Protection Ministry and released Friday.

The ministry’s report shows there are 61,366 families have at least one member working abroad and in 17,672 families, both parents are away to work abroad.

The total number of children whose parents work abroad is 85,576, and 25,048 of these children have both parents away.

Other 23,722 children whose parents work abroad have been left in the care of relatives up to the fourth degree and 1,001 have been placed under child-care services protection.
