Romania Has No Plans To Tax Pensions, PM Says

Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc said Saturday at a party meeting the Government has not included any plans to tax pensions in its draft state budget for next year, denying recent media allegations.

The draft state budget, which sets the wage and pension policy, does not include any plans to tax pensions, nor is the government considering taxing pensions, Boc said.

The prime minister also laid out the Government’s priorities, which are the adoption of the state budget, reforming loss-incurring state-owned companies, investments, and EU fund absorption.

A union federation of Romanian pensioners said earlier this week it would sue the Government at the European Court of Human Rights and pensioners would protest in the streets if pensions are taxed.
