PSD spokesman Radu Moldovan said in November social democrats will notify the Constitutional Court if any ruling coalition party proposes a candidate for Senate president and the respective candidate wins elections.
Moldovan said at that time that, according to Decision no. 601/2005 of the Court, if the Senate chairman or the Chamber of Deputies speaker is removed from office, only the parliamentary group which held that position is allowed to make a new proposition to fill it.
Former Interior Minister Vasile Blaga was elected Senate chairman with 69 votes on November 28, after the dismissal of former social democrat Mircea Geoana. His sole contender, opposition-backed Titus Corlatean, garnered 63 votes.
