Romanian Leu Opens Slightly Up Vs Euro, Against Regional Trend

The Romanian leu opened slightly igher against the euro Wednesday, against the trend of regional markets, and neared 4.24 units against the euro.

„The leu trades similar with the previous day’s closing value, in a quiet market and amid low traded volumes. The leu trend is once again different from that of the regional currencies, which are depreciating,” a dealer said.

The leu opened at RON4.2360/RON4.24 against the euro, slightly higher from Tuesday’s closing value, and touched a low at RON4.2380/RON4.2420 against the euro.

Then, at around GMT08:25, the leu was trading at RON4.2345/RON 4.2385 against the euro.

The leu closed at RON4.2390/RON4.2415 versus euro, weaker compared with Monday’s closing value of RON4.2235/RON4.2250 to the euro.

The central bank computed an exchange rate of RON4.2348 to the euro Tuesday.

On the money market Wednesday, overnight rates were at 9%-10% a year.
