Romanian Leu Exch Rate Slightly Stronger, At RON4.2348 Vs Euro

The Romanian leu appreciated against the euro in the first part of Tuesday's trading session and the central bank computed an exchange rate of RON4.2348 to the euro, stronger compared with Monday’s indicative.

The central bank announced Monday a reference rate of RON4.2392 against the euro.

However, on the interbank market the leu started to lose ground by mid-day, on hard currency buyouts. Some banking dealers said the statements of the finance minister regarding the budget deficit may have influenced the leu trading.

Romania’s consolidated budget posted a deficit of 0.63% of the gross domestic product in the first two months of the year, the Finance Minister Gheorghe Pogea said Tuesday.
