Romania’s Govt Cuts About 2,000 Positions In Local Work Departments

According to the sources, certain work departments will merge and the Management Authority will be transformed into a department. Government spokeswoman Ioana Muntean confirmed the information after Wednesday’s Government meeting.

According to Muntean, the number of positions within the National Pension House will be reduced by 1,008, to 3,476 from 4,484, employment agency ANOFM will lose 720 posts of a total of 2,882, the National Agency for Social Work will have 344 positions eliminated, and positions within the Work Inspection will be cut by 150, to 3,236, from 3,386.

End-June, the Government decided to transform into departments four authorities subordinated to the Labor Ministry, namely the National Agency for Equality of Chances between Men and Women, the Authority for the Protection of Families and Children’s Rights, the National Authority for People with Disabilities and the Social Inspection. Following the decision, 367 employees were sacked, and the ministry’s staff spending was reduced by 25%.

The total number of positions within structures subordinated to the ministry will be reduced by 19%, to 10,828, from 13,357.
