U.S. President Bush Arrives In Bucharest

United States president George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush arrived Tuesday evening in Romania’s capital city of Bucharest aboard Air Force One.

The White House leader is also accompanied by U.S. State Secretary Condoleezza Rice.

The U.S. official was welcomed at the airport by Romanian defense minister Teodor Melescanu and U.S. ambassador to Bucharest, Nicholas Taubman, and presidential adviser for defense Mihai Stanisoara.

Bush will attend the NATO summit hosted by Bucharest on April 2-4.

The U.S. president arrived from Kiev, where he met with Ukrainian president Viktor Yushchenko.

Bush will deliver a speech Wednesday morning and later leave for the Romanian southeastern county of Constanta to meet with Romanian president Traian Basescu at the protocol villa in the seaside resort of Neptun.

Bush will return to Bucharest Wednesday evening to attend the NATO summit Thursday and Friday. The U.S. president will also meet with Romanian prime minister Calin Tariceanu Friday around noon.

Bush will then depart for Zagreb, where he will meet with the president of Croatia.

Bush has also been invited by Russia’s Putin to visit Sochi in the Russian Federation, and will accept the invitation after the stop in Croatia.
