Working hours will be extended to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, which means that subway stations will in fact be open until 1.00, the press release said.
"The last trains will leave from stations Piata Unirii 1 and Piata Unirii 2 towards terminus stations at 0.30, and they will be connected at Basarab station with trains traveling Mainline 4 and respectively in Eroilor station with trains traveling towards Industriilor station," said the press release.
The costs for the operation will reach RON175,000 per month, the IT&C and Communication director within national subway company Metrorex, Mariana Petre, told MEDIAFAX.
The income that Metrorex will register in this interval has yet to be estimated, because most passengers traveling in that timeframe use monthly passes.
The Bucharest subway network has 62.2 kilometers of double rail, structured in four mainlines, 45 stations and three depots.
The subway carries 140 million passengers every year, in a total number of 370 train cars.
