According to the press release, the first 40 armored vehicles are on their way to Afghanistan and the another 20 will reach Afghanistan this fall. Romanian troops will be allowed to use these vehicles as long as they are deployed in the area.
„One of our highest priorities is force protection for all of our allies. Romania has been our stalwart ally and Romanian land forces have fought side-by-side with us in Zabul province and elsewhere in Afghanistan,” said U.S. Ambassador to Bucharest Mark Gitenstein.
Gitenstein said the armored vehicles will be very helpful in protecting the Romanian troops from roadside bombs when they go on patrol missions.
